Intimate partner violence (IPV) during pregnancy is a preventable public health issue. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists reports that 1 in 6 abused people are first abused during pregnancy. Intimate partner violence is more common than gestational diabetes or preeclampsia, which are both discussed and monitored at length during and after pregnancy. Healthcare professionals and community providers have a unique opportunity to educate birthing people on the resources and supports available to them around healthy relationships.
