CHA Issue-Based Forum: Accessibility Standards for Medical Diagnostic Equipment
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Location: Live Webinar, Presented at your Facility

There is no fee for this event.

This webinar will review the U.S. Access Board's accessibility standards for medical diagnostic equipment (MDE).  These standards provide design criteria for examination tables and chairs, weight scales, radiological and mammography equipment, and other diagnostic equipment that are accessible to people with disabilities.  The standards also include specifications for equipment that necessitates transfer from mobility aids and address transfer surfaces, support rails, armrests, and other features.  While the standards are not mandatory on healthcare providers or equipment manufacturers, a new Connecticut law passed in 2022 seeks to make providers aware of the standards, and requires institutions, including hospitals, to take these MDE standards into consideration before purchasing various types of medical equipment (Section 73 of Public Act 22-58).

The program will also identify existing policies and procedures that hospitals and other providers should review to determine if updates are needed.

The webinar will be presented by Bobby Stinnette, Accessibility Specialist, U.S. Access Board.

This training session is designed for physicians, nurses, practice managers, executive engineers, purchasing managers, compliance officers, and others involved in utilizing or purchasing medical diagnostic equipment.

There is no fee to attend; this program is open to all CHA, CAHCF/CCAL, CSMS, and LeadingAge CT members.

Registration for this event is now closed.
