CHA provides cost-effective, high-quality education programs designed to meet the ongoing and emerging needs of healthcare professionals. In addition to classroom-style programs offered in our Wallingford headquarters, CHA offers a variety of distance learning options.

Programs at CHA

CHA provides on-site classroom-style education programs in several general areas: executive leadership; management skill building; quality and patient safety; coding and billing; accreditation and regulatory compliance; and emerging issues. Approximately 80-100 programs are offered each year, attended by more than 3,500 people. Many programs provide continuing education credits for physicians, nurses, social workers, coders, health information managers, quality managers, and others.

Online self learning programs are self-directed programs that allow learners to participate in education activities without leaving their organizations, making them cost and time effective. They are accessed via the Internet and frequently include exercises and post tests that demonstrate subject matter mastery. CHA offers online self learning programs through careLearning.com.

Teleclasses are relatively short (usually 90 minutes), live, interactive presentations delivered over the telephone. The learner receives handouts sent in advance by e-mail, along with a dial-in number and access code. While listening to the presentation over the telephone, the learner may ask the teleclass moderator to submit questions that the presenter will answer. Hospitals find teleclasses and webinars cost-effective because they can enroll a group of people and pay only one telephone connection fee for the group.

Webinars provide a relatively short (one to two hours), live, interactive presentation using the Internet and telephone conferencing lines. The learner uses handouts downloaded from the Internet, sees the presenter's slides on screen, hears the presentation over the telephone connection, and can have a moderator submit questions over the Internet. Similar to teleclasses, webinars provide a cost-effective option allowing a group of people to participate and pay only one telephone connection fee for the group.

A current list of teleclasses and webinars offered is available by clicking either Program Listing or Calendar of Events on the menu. CHA offers online self learning programs through careLearning.com.

careLearning is an online training organization developed and run by a group of state hospital associations, including CHA, to provide a wide array of cost-effective online education opportunities for their vendors. Over 200 courses are currently offered through careLearning.

A popular program available to healthcare organizations is the Health and Safety Compliance Series (HSCS), designed to meet mandated training requirements. A subscription to the HSCS provides access to thirteen of the most commonly requested mandatory courses for healthcare employees, as well as a comprehensive, easy-to-use learner tracking and management system.
