HIPAA
The
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
of 1996 is now a familiar element of the business of healthcare,
challenging the industry with a myriad of regulatory changes
related to privacy and information.
On April
14, 2003, the nation's healthcare providers faced the first
milestone provision of the sweeping federal privacy law, which
is the
deadline for compliance with the law's Standards for Privacy
of
Individually Identifiable Health Information.
CHA also
produced a HIPAA Overview, which explains the impact of HIPAA
on the release of patient information to the news media. Click
